On Thursday 14 December 2023, a live webinar was held to present the project and its results.
Risk assessment of recycled phosphate
Together with the Swedish National Veterinary Institute (SVA) and Lantmännen, EasyMining have conducted a risk assessment of the entire value chain concerning relevant pathogens, including prions, from sewage sludge to finished feed phosphate.
In EasyMinings´ Ash2Phos process, phosphorus is extracted from ash of sewage sludge after incineration, resulting in a pure, non-crystalline calcium phosphate (RevoCaP).
In a previous test, this phosphate has been proven high digestibility in animals (pigs and chickens) and meets all quality requirements in feed legislation.
In this project, we have collaborated with the Swedish National Veterinary Institute (SVA) and Lantmännen to conduct a risk assessment of the value chain, specifically concerning relevant pathogens, including prions, from sewage sludge to a finished feed phosphate.
The conclusion is that calcium phosphates recovered from sewage sludge incineration ashes could be safely and effectively used in animal feed if regulatory obstacles were lifted.
